Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Schlichter.
Hi Jacob, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I suppose it’s been a lifelong journey. I’ve always been intrigued by entrepreneurship and community-oriented activities. At a young age, I chatted with my mothers about designing/ inventing things, played violin for fun for residents of various nursing homes, and spent way too much time on Runescape. By the time I was in high school, I was selling clothing on Roblox and creating various servers in Minecraft. In the winters, if I weren’t busy, you’d catch me snowmobiling around the state with my dad. I also spent time competing in the science olympiad for my high school, amongst many other extracurriculars.
Right after high school, I stopped running my gaming servers and transitioned full-time to graphic design and photography. I have to thank things like Mythbusters, How It’s Made, Nat Geo, and Make magazine for helping me stay curious and motivated. Also, I cannot forget all of my family and friends who were always there to encourage me. A couple of years later, I started my first fashion brand and ended up working with several billion-dollar household brands as well as the Tommy Chong brand.
More recently in my life, I’ve been privileged to be able to be there for the signing of HF 100 and have been enjoying sitting on the board of the Albert Lea Art Center. It seems fitting that I’d end up starting two fashion brands, hiking around the nation for my photography, and starting a dispensary.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had many ups and downs. Running several businesses without taking on any debt is challenging but rewarding. Wearing many hats is fun yet exhausting. You’ve got to fall in love with the struggle and get used to constant rejection. At the end of the day, I enjoy getting to serve my community in various ways and having a multitude of challenges to work on each day.
I don’t say any of this to deter would-be entrepreneurs. I actually want to encourage anyone reading this to never give up. The two promises of life are that we all face challenges and that we eventually die. What you do with your time and how you react to those challenges is what determines where you will end up. I don’t want to get lost chasing money, status, or happiness. I’d rather learn to be content and to find fulfilment in realistic things, all while finding ways to support those in my community who need help.
No matter how hard life gets, never forget that every day you wake up is another 24 hours to improve your situation.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right now, I’m working on an astrophoto project for an MSAB grant that I was very elated to have been awarded. I’m also designing apparel for various businesses and artists through my Slicks brand. I’m hoping to have some shelf space in a large nationwide retail chain that I’ve been chatting with by the end of the year. Then, I’m pouring loads of time into the dispensary.
I’d say my specialities are also what I’m known for. Ex. My love for my community, photography, networking, marketing, graphic design, web design, and soon-to-be cannabis retail.
I’m proud of my work ethic and determination. As well as my ability to simultaneously balance everything I do. I hope to die one day knowing that I left a positive impact on the world.
I’ve been told my drive and curiosity are my strong traits.
The easiest way for anyone to stay up to date with what I’m doing is by checking my site…

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Building community and promoting equity.
I think in an age where it’s easy to get lost in echo chambers and to be able to block anyone who even slightly disagrees with you, that it’s important to find ways to build bridges. I also think it’s important to promote equity in a society where we’re all facing different challenges. You wouldn’t judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. If I can promote and help create a society that caters to everyone in the way they uniquely need, then I’d be happy.
