Check Out Daye Martin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daye Martin

Hi Daye, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been editing videos from when I was a kid using windows movie maker, but I didn’t really think of it as a career at that time so I still went to school for Accounting and graduated with my Bachelors. While in school, I would still post my lifestyle videos because it was entertaining to me and it was a medium for sharing my thoughts and feelings. It wasn’t until 2022 that I decided to take content creating seriously and build a connection with my audience because I also found joy in interacting with friends online and I wanted to take it a step further and interact with strangers that just happened to come across my content. I started with YouTube and found my way to other apps and it’s been the most fun process ever

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle with creating content is the low engagement. Not every video is a hit and not everyone cares about the topic of the video (in fact only one or two people could care). You put in all the work to create the best video, research what people would want to see, and it could still have 20 likes after posting. Some people give up but I feel like those are people that started for the benefits of it. Don’t get me wrong, the benefits are amazing; however, you have to love it first. I enjoy creating content, even on my mother’s birthday, I create a video for her. I’m putting out this content for the people but also for myself. I’m entertained while I’m editing……and it’s fun for me. I’m most proud of my consistency this year, I think this is the first time I’m repurposing my content and posting at least once a day so I’m grateful to be able to do that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a lifestyle content creator that’s passionate about connecting with my audience on a deeper level. I love showing my audience what I’m up to in life, whether it ‘s where I’m traveling to, what I’m cooking, what I spend my weekend doing, EVERYTHING! I also love when they can learn from me, just the other day, someone mentioned me in her story for helping her overcome her fear of doing her own lashes and it sounds minuscule but that’s what it’s really about to me. I would say my cooking videos have been the most viral but I’m known for my fun, bubbly personality. I think what sets me apart is my personality and editing process. I always incorporate a new capcut trick to my videos. I learn from other creators and I stay watching editing tips videos. If I’m not speaking in a video, I always make the audio match the video (for example, if the beat gets faster, my video gets faster with it or if the audio says food, I pan to an actual clip of food). Lol I don’t know if that makes sense but I find it entertaining when it almost looks like my video is the official music video for the audio

What were you like growing up?
I was the social butterfly growing up. Always confident, never scared of anything. I would follow my dad to his public speaking events and get a mic to contribute. I would organize choreographies with my siblings and call my mum to sit and watch the show. In summary, I enjoyed being creative. My current passion doesn’t surprise me at all because I was always like this. I remember when I was “directing” a movie with my siblings (I think I was like 9) and we couldn’t add thunder effects to the video (it was a raining scene) so we rolled a plastic chair on our interlock floor to get the effect. That was creative to me, and exploring my creativity will never end. I’m just grateful that my parents beat the “Nigerian parents allegations” and supported my creativity all the way. I’m also grateful to my siblings for being down for whatever and sharing those moments with me

Speaking of siblings, I also remember how we had to get up and walk to the altar for offerings in church and my siblings will all give me their offering because they didn’t want to walk up there, but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed walking in the middle of the church and I think that just showed how confident and carefree I was.
